Italian Wedding Adventure Ticket Update
Over the last several months we have been combing the internet, consulting with travel agents, and seeking sage advice wherever we could find it – yes, there may have been a psychic or two involved.
The result: The internet, the travel agents, and at least one person who “dabbles in the paranormal sciences” has told us that now is the time to start shopping for tickets to Italy.
The advice: Summer sales have started and while they are not as robust as we have hoped for, if you want to guarantee the best price for a particular itinerary you should probably buy your ticket within the next 30-45 days. The reason: The prices of tickets are based on available inventory and while sales and competition among airlines may continue to drive prices down, those lower priced tickets will be for dates on which a particular airline has excess inventory. So there is no guarantee that August 6-8, 2010 will be among those dates.
Do you want the good news or the bad news first? Just kidding – you don’t have a choice.
The Bad News: Ticket prices have not fallen as low as we had hoped or were advised they would. Now ticket prices fluctuate all the time (but usually based on inventory) so while it might still happen, it may not happen for the date of the wedding and it is also possible that ticket prices go up. The bottom line? The best fare I could find for air only travel as of today was $1080 to Rome (train tickets to Naples are about $30) and $1238 to Naples. But wait! Before sticker shock fully sets in...
The Good News: oh…and there is A LOT of good news…
1) Omar’s mother has offered to pay for the hotel stays of our wedding guests for the entire wedding weekend. So if you can make it, your hotel for the night of August 6th and the night of August 7th is on us! (Well…really on Omar’s mother…but who’s counting?)
2) Your transfers from the airport and the train station in Naples to the Hotel Terme Capasso (hereafter: “the free wedding hotel”) will be provided courtesy of the Bride and Groom.
3) EuropeanDestinations.com. Let me say it again: EuropeanDestinations.com. They are awesome. They are a package only agency (i.e. air + hotel), but I called them yesterday to see what they are offering and after only 5 or 10 minutes on the phone, the agent found a roundtrip ticket to Naples PLUS 6 nights at a 4 star hotel for $1070.00. (Rome is $100 more) Yes, you heard right. And yes, that is $168.00 less than air only to Naples. And yes…the package + the wedding weekend = 8 crazy Italian wedding adventure nights for $1070 per person. How would it work? Well…for instance you could fly in early, explore southern Italy for 6 nights and then come to the wedding and fly out on Sunday, August 8th. You could also fly in for the wedding and then arrange for your 6 night hotel stay to begin on Sunday night. Now, the agent explained that prices fluctuate so there is no guarantee that the package is still available, but it is an example the options out there.
We know it is a lot of money and long to way to go for a wedding, but we hope that with the hotel, the transfers, the welcome dinner on the 6th, the reception on the 7th, and the brunch on the 8th that we can help make the trip more affordable for our guests. Oh, and while Jennifer has nixed the dancing bears, Omar still has a few surprises up his sleeve to make the trip unforgettable.
We will be updating the website regularly over the next few days to provide all the information and advice you need to make your plans. If you have any questions, please email us or reach out on Facebook or Twitter and we will get back to you ASAP.

The Hotel
While only an hour and a half from the Amalfi Coast, Santomenna is located in the mountains of Campagna.
Given the relative remoteness of the location there are only a few hotels to choose from. We have painstakingly visited each of them and have chosen the finest one.
We have already booked the entire hotel so that everyone, for the convenience and pleasure of our guests, can stay together.
Your RSVP will book your room.
The hotel is drop dead beautiful and is located on a natural sulfur spring favored by the ancient Romans who visited the area. Click here for what this means.
The Wedding
Santomenna, Italy is in the Campagna Region of the country. The closest international airport is Naples (approximately 2 hours away). The second closest is Rome (a lovely 4 hour drive or train ride).
Transfers to and from the Naples airport will be provided. Guests making their own arrangements are asked to arrive at the hotel by 2:00pm on Friday, 6 August so that you can join us for the Welcome Dinner at 6pm. The wedding will take place in the early evening of Saturday, 7 August. A Recovery Brunch will be held at the hotel the next day.
